Preparing Physically, Financially, and Mentally for Your New Baby

Parents say that childbirth is the most rewarding event of their entire lives.  The unconditional love that you have for your own child is unlike anything else you can ever experience.  Yet, until that fateful day comes, there is a lot to do and think about in preparation for the new little baby.  Mothers and fathers have plenty of things to buy, discuss, and do before the baby comes into their lives.

In order to prepare for your baby, you need to make sure that you are doing everything you can to be as healthy as possible.  As soon as you find out you are pregnant, begin taking prenatal vitamins and daily vitamin supplements.  There are a lot of developing vitamins that your child needs while he or she is growing that you simply can’t get in your daily diet.  Exercise during pregnancy is also important.  If you were an avid exerciser before pregnancy, make sure you keep up with your exercise routines as much as possible.  It’s important not to change your behavior too much or it will disturb your growing baby.  If you didn’t exercise much before getting pregnant, simply start walking for an hour a day.  It will help your baby grow healthy. Make sure you are eating a whole foods and complete diet throughout pregnancy.  Never let yourself feel like you are starving because your baby will feel that too.

There are plenty of things to talk about before the baby comes as well.  Finances are a huge issue when it comes to having a baby.  Discuss with your significant other how you are going to afford the birth, the baby supplies, and other expenses in the future.  Create a plan and stick with it.  Decide whether you are going to breastfeed or give your baby formula.  If you do decide to breastfeed, make sure you invest in nursing shirts, nursing bras, and a pump.

Start nesting right away in order to make the buying process less stressful.  If you wait until the last minute to buy everything, it will be quite the stressful process.  Purchase everything from nursing shirts to baby clothes to cribs throughout the entire 9 months. Not only does buying things from the beginning allow you to space out expenses, but it also helps you get prepared and excited for the new baby to come.  Start buying diapers immediately as well as these are your most expensive purchases in the future. Having a small stock pile of them at first will help you get through the beginning of childhood.
