If you are a new nursing mother, you have likely quickly noticed how difficult it can be to feed your child at times. There are a lot of things to get used to when you have never done something before. In addition to finding the right techniques for nursing, you also begin to realize that nursing in public is never enjoyable; in fact, you try to avoid it at all costs.
When the baby is hungry and cranky and you have nowhere to go to hide, there are a few products that may help you stay private while in public:
Nursing Bra:
The nursing bra doesn’t necessarily provide any real protection from the public; all it offers is a way to conveniently remove the front of your bra without feeling like you have to take all of your clothes off. The nursing bra is best used in conjunction with the nursing cover or nursing shirt.
Nursing Cover:
The nursing cover is a great resource when striving to remain covered while nursing. Rather than hide in the bathroom, you can place a cover around your neck that will drape over the front of your shirt. Then you can pull the baby under the cover and begin nursing without feeling like you are exposing yourself to those around you.
At times nursing with a cover is not the best route to go because it may reveal your sides or stomach area as you pull up the shirt underneath. Although it is better than nothing, there are a few other things to try.
Nursing Shirt:
When using a nursing shirt in conjunction with a nursing cover, you are likely to experience the most cover possible. Rather than pulling out the nursing cover and drawing attention to yourself, you can take the time to put on a nursing shirt and ensure that you are covered at all times. Essentially, the nursing shirt is connected to the nursing bra and will allow you the privilege of nursing without exposing yourself. The undershirt will stay down, close to your body while the outer shirt is carefully pulled up.
When you have a nursing cover to place over the shirt and bra, you will be able to cover any scene of nursing and feel very confident even in private settings. When you have these tools handy, you will quickly find that a feeding emergency isn’t as stressful as it used to be!
