Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman
will receive the Career Achievement Award for acting from the Palm Springs Film Fest on Jan. 5, Variety reports.

The ceremony, hosted by Mary Hart of "Entertainment Tonight," will serve as a kickoff to the annual festival that runs through Jan. 18.

Freeman will next be seen in Clint Eastwood's "Invictus," premiering Dec. 11. The film star plays President Nelson Mandela in South Africa's era of apartheid.

Based on a true story, the film follows Mandela as he works with the country's rugby team captain (Matt Damon) to unite the racially and economically divided country and to bring the team to the 1995 World Cup match.
