Jay-Z

According to recent reports, Jay-Z will be in attendance when they break ground today (March 11) at Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, the site for the Barclay Center, which will house the New Jersey Nets. The rapper-turned-mogul -- and part-owner of the Nets -- will be joined by friend and developer Bruce Ratner, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. David Paterson at the construction site.

Jay, who's used to being treated like a king in his hometown, and the other investors are expected to face protesters who've been challenging the construction of the sports arena as it would evict residents and business owners that already reside on the land. The group Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn are expected to boycott today's ground breaking, along with several locals.

"I am angry with our so-called political leaders who proudly stand by their abuse of power," Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn spokesman Daniel Goldstein told NBC news.

The new Barclay Center will be open to the public in 2012.

L.A. Reid

Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid has been criticized by the media for his recent signing of Belize-bound rapper Shyne, and now his job is said to be on the line. The rumor is supported by his failure to appear at a speaking engagement where he was likely to face questions regarding the safety of his position.

The Def Jam exec was scheduled to speak at Billboard Magazine's 2010 Music & Money Symposium at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City on March 4, an event which people paid up to $1,000 to attend, hoping to hear Reid discuss the future of his label. Mere hours before his engagement, however, Reid pulled out, claiming he had a sick child to take care of. Rumors immediately spread that Reid ducked out of his speaking appearance in order to avoid tough questions regarding his future at Def Jam, under scrutiny for having recorded underwhelming sales and made several questionable deals.
